    Here’s your reminder that registration for our 21st Birthday opens June 16th!

    We’re super excited to say that this year should be a blast, but there will be a few changes to keep in mind!

    1st, as some of you may have noticed on our site, we are officially moving towards being a 21+ convention. This is a long time coming, and makes the experience safer for all involved. We’re not just a drinking event (and stay tuned, event and activity signups will be opening soon!), but there’s no denying that the Tilted Tavern plays a large part in our activities!

    2nd, we will be moving our traditional charity raffle on Sunday at 1pm! This gives us a lot more time to set up, and you a lot more time to get your tickets in! A daylight show also makes it easier and safer to see what’s going on, and we’re excited to see what kind of trouble our show-folks get up to this year!

    3rd and finally, we’re making some changes to Super Sponsor perks. Super Sponsors will still enjoy an exclusive event with themed food, drinks, and entertainment, but rather than a custom badge for each person, the Guest of Honor will be making a Super Sponsor only design that will be featured on an exclusive gift. Custom badges will still be available, but they will be an add on to Super Sponsor registration for $50. They will be limited to 40 slots and will be first come, first served!

    Happy Monday y’all! We just wanted to take this post to talk about our MASCOTS this year! Introducing Bonk & Benny, our prehistoric dynamic duo! You’ll see them more as we get closer yet closer to AFC 2025. 💙

    Bonk the Tiny T-Rex
    (Minisaurus ceruleopup) — Gender: Bonk — Age: 2
    Bonk is a light-blue dino with the loyalty of a dog and the mischief of a cat. Fiercely devoted to Benny, Bonk shows love by digging up bones, sleeping in precarious ledges, and inserting himself into every part of Benny’s day! Equal parts cuddly and chaotic, Bonk is a prehistoric pest with a heart of gold (and a mouth full of bones!)

    (Canis mediocritus nerdicus) — Gender: Male — Age: 24
    Benny is your average overworked prehistoric office-dog just trying to survive his 9-to-eternity job. He finds peace in con-going, cosplay, and binge-watching cavetoons; as a lovable nerd with encyclopedic knowledge of cave-memes, extinct fandoms, and ancient dance moves, Benny is just trying his best… And honestly? Same.

  • Movie review: ‘Nimona’ (2023)

    Nimona (trailer) is a 99-minute American animated movie released in 2023. It was eventually directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, with a script by Robert Baird and Lloyd Taylor (plus additional writers), and was adapted from a webcomic/graphic novel by ND Stevenson. Originally it was produced by Blue Sky Studios, whose parent company was acquired by Disney before the project was finished. Disney cancelled it, likely due to its overt LGBTQ+ themes, and closed down Blue Sky to focus on their own, pre-existing animation studios. Luckily, they were willing to let Netflix acquire the rights, and it was completed by DNEG Animation and Annapurna Pictures.

    And I am the wrong person to be reviewing this movie.

    In my years of writing reviews, this is the second time this has happened. The first time was when Kyell Gold sent me a copy of Green Fairy to review. By no fault of Kyell’s, or the story itself, aspects of the book set off multiple buttons in my head due to personal experiences from my past. This caused my brain to mis-map story elements, and it didn’t work for me. I tried writing a review, and I couldn’t bring myself to publish it at the time. It wasn’t fair to the book, nor to Kyell’s writing craft.

    And so now I’m facing a similar dilemma with Nimona. This time, I’m going to attempt a review, but without all of my internal brain slop. You’ll be getting some of it, but believe me when I say I’m leaving a lot out. (Deep breaths. Focus on the positive.) At this point the film is two years old and I’m assuming that most folks here have seen it, so I’m not going to be shy about major plot details.

    However, despite my personal opinions, let me be clear: If you haven’t watched this film, it’s worth a watch. It’s good. It’s just I’m not the audience it’s for. And that’s ok! I still appreciate it for what it is. Stop reading here to avoid spoilers.
