Save the Dragons — And More

Recently at a book store (remember those?) we came across the Impossible Creatures series of young adult fantasy novels, written by Katherine Rundell. The first book is called (appropriately) Impossible Creatures. “The day that Christopher saved a drowning baby griffin from a hidden lake would change his life forever. It’s the day he learned about the Archipelago — a cluster of un-mapped islands where magical creatures of every kind have thrived for thousands of years, until now. And it’s the day he met Mal — a girl on the run, in desperate need of his help. Mal and Christopher embark on a wild adventure, racing from island to island, searching for someone who can explain why the magic is fading and why magical creatures are suddenly dying. They consult sphinxes, battle kraken, and negotiate with dragons. But the closer they get to the dark truth of what’s happening, the clearer it becomes: No one else can fix this. If the Archipelago is to be saved, Mal and Christopher will have to do it themselves.” And don’t forget to check out the second book in the series, The Poisoned King.

  • Fur your consideration 2025 – The fourth year of shorts reviews

We are now in the fourth year of reviewing the dramatic shorts category based on the recommendations submitted to the Ursa Majors along with random ones I may have seen during the year, or items that maybe the algorithms caught that only get recommended at this time of year for some reason. The choices here are, once again, polished and only one or two in the whole list had missing elements. Without you all curating your choices these lists would not happen so thank you for your efforts this year.

New to the format this year is that I’ll lean toward sectionalizing so that the text before the video doesn’t go too much into spoiler territory and any text afterwards will go more into elements I liked that address the content itself as to not spoil any desire to view without being painted by those thoughts.

  • Furcation (UK) Update #2

    Furcation (UK) Update #2

It’s been over a year since Furcation lost it’s hotel. To be honest the best anyone have managed to find out that their hotel took a disliking to furries in general. If there was any other issues, no one has been able to confirm or deny anything. Meanwhile nothing is coming out of those who operate Furcation. Not even as much as a single update. So I decided to post 1 of my own. The various groups and sites they host are still up. I hope that is a good sign.

With CanFURence in Canada suddenly loosing their hotel, namely they lost their dates.

    Not a good sign

My report is no news other than being in Limbo

Like MFF staff member Teller experienced when this nice little idea of theirs totally backfired because of the pandemic. Sort of lost in space until the next con. Who knew it would take 2 years instead of one. To this day Teller has been quoted to say “NEVER AGAIN”.

Other cons, gatherings and events have gone back from the seemly dead let’s hope Furcation and CanFURence does the same.

  • CanFURance Lost It’s Hotel

    They released the following statement

We have a very significant development with our host hotel to announce. Regrettably, we have recently been informed by the hotel that, due to the timing of renovations, they are unable to host CanFURence this year over the August holiday weekend (July 31st – August 2nd). This is a decision we believe was made in good faith by the Delta, and that they reached out to us as soon as they realized the conflicting dates. The hotel did also attempt to see if there was any availability in other hotels on our normal weekend, but currently there is not.

We are looking into alternative dates and/or locations to host CanFURence 2026, and are working with the hotel to see what can be arranged. But as of this moment, the dates for CanFURence 2026 will no longer be on July 31-Aug 2.

We apologize for this unforeseen event and will provide an update as soon as there are any significant developments.
